The Kingdom of Kush in the years 1070 BCE-350 CE

Kandake or better known by its Greek translation, Candace, was the title for the queens of Kush (or Cush) also known as Nubia and Ethiopia. They also ruled Sudan and parts of Egypt.

Herodotus, Strabo and Diodorus wrote accounts claiming the existence of warrior women, particularly queens in ancient African societies. At first such histories were dismissed by scholars but in recent years more evidence has suggested otherwise.
